Memory Lane

This post is in response to Bubba's Sis' blog. You can read it by going here.

Each time I would spend the weekend with my grandparents I would cross my fingers that Granddaddy went to work on Saturday. My Granddaddy had the greatest job on earth. Although for most of my childhood I had no idea what he did. But in his office he had a drafting board, loads of large paper, map pencils, tile samples, movie theater chairs, popcorn machines, and the mother of all items...a candy warehouse.

I am a morning person (to the dismay of many of my family members and my sweet hubby) so it was never any problem to get up early on Saturday--I even woke my Granddaddy up by staring at him. I would walk quietly from the four poster featherbed I slept in to his bedroom. I would stand next to the bed--on his side--and watched him. Before I knew it he would open one eye. Once he moved it was over. I would jump in bed with him and try to get him to wake up.

He would try to get me to go back to sleep by saying..."We will get up when the birds are up." I would be lie still and listen for the birds. Each time I heard one singing outside I would shake him. He would tell me "I didn't hear it, so it doesn't count. Be still and keep listening." It was a good stall tactic. Eventually he would get up and make me Eggo waffles--and make sure butter got in every square.

He would get showered and dressed and then he would put 'stink 'em' on both of us and then we would be gone.

Once his work was done for the day, or he couldn't do anymore with me there--we would go to the candy warehouse and I could pick something out. Most of the time I chose Junior Mints.

What I know now...my Grandfather was an engineer. He worked for a company that built theaters--and we got to go to the movies alot. Each time we went to the candy warehouse Granddaddy would have to buy the whole case of candy we picked, unless it was open. My Grandmother was thankful when we went to work with Granddaddy as we were out of her hair.

OH...just a note. We NEVER woke my Grandmother up. It didn't go well if we did.

When I look back, I remember how magical those times were. I should call my Granddaddy today. :)

Brain Tricks

I woke up this morning without my alarm clock. I heard one of the pets stirring and looked at my clock at it was 6:45.

I slid out of bed. Stumbled to the bathroom and then proceeded to make breakfast and coffee.

Only but guess what! I am on vacation! No work for me this week. Too bad I couldn't sleep in. :)
