The backwards 'H'
I decided it would be a nice touch to our wedding invitations to close them with a wax seal.
So rather than buying a 'B' for my last name, I decided to be forward thinking and buy an 'H'. I also bought the non-glue gun wax. The kind that you heat up with a flame and let drip on the envelope. Very crafty...huh?
So we sit down and get the invitiations addressed, stuffed, and ready for waxing. And in my infinite wisdom we do a test wax. I look at the impression...and the H is backwards. So I try it again, as if it would change, and it is still backwards. I read online and find out that in old times, when people sealed their letters with wax and a signet ring, the images were reversed because the ring was meant to be looked at...um...well not backwards.
The history of this is great. But I think people would look at the 'H' and say...it's backwards! So we went back to the store...and all of the 'H's' are backwards (or right ways...but will stamp backwards). As a side note, the 'B's' were right, go figure.
Never a dull moment!

Ummm....wouldn't a backwards H just look like an H?
not if it was scripty. the loops are on the wrong side
OK, that makes sense now!
And, we are doing this why???
Wax doesn't mail well, as they send all the envelopes through the little scanner thing (that's why it's extra postage for square or overly-large envelopes) and anything sticking out up on the outside causes problems. Just FYI!
